On Tuesday, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, chaired the official ceremony for the appointment of the new governor of the Ifrane region, Ibrahim Abou Zaid, who was appointed to this position by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The ceremony, which began with the reading of the royal decree concerning the appointment, saw Minister Mezzour express his congratulations to the new governor. He praised the royal trust placed in him and highlighted Abou Zaid’s rich professional experience in both administration and politics, which had qualified him for this important position.
The government official emphasized that the coming period requires the new governor to strengthen the role of territorial authorities as the cornerstone for implementing reform projects. Ensuring security in its broadest sense was also highlighted as an essential function of the modern state.
Mezzour stressed the importance of prioritizing infrastructure development and enhancing public facilities while valuing the region’s natural and human resources. He also underscored the need to target vulnerable areas, improving their attractiveness through a participatory approach involving local communities and civil society. This approach should rely on territorial intelligence to anticipate practical and sustainable solutions.
In related remarks, Mezzour considered water issues to be a strategic national challenge requiring comprehensive mobilization and continuous vigilance. This is in line with the royal directives aimed at rationalizing water resources and achieving effective coordination between water and agricultural policies, including the establishment of water police to protect public water resources.
The minister also called for maximum mobilization of efforts and intensified coordination among local authorities, elected councils, decentralized services, and civil society actors. This, he said, is essential to meet the citizens’ expectations and ensure spatial justice.
Moreover, he urged all stakeholders, particularly public officials, to engage fully in consolidating decentralization and activating local governance. This involves the introduction of new mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation between local authorities and decentralized services to ensure effective management and performance.
In conclusion, Mezzour emphasized that the success of Morocco’s development model depends on how well local authorities understand their role in advancing social and economic work with a spirit of innovation, listening, and wisdom.
The appointment ceremony was attended by the Wali of Fès-Meknès Region, the Governor of Fès, Moahad Al-Jamii, the President of the Regional Council, Abdelwahid Al-Ansari, along with various elected officials, heads of external services, and civil and military figures.
